Landmarks
1.Eagle Square
Eagle Square, also known as Dataran Lang, is one of the most well-known sites in Langkawi. The attraction symbolizes the origin of Langakawi’s name. Eagle Square is close to the Kuah jetty in Kuah Town. Here in Kuah, a 12-meter-tall sculpture of an eagle with its wings spread wide is on display atop an elevated platform. Because “Helang” means “eagle” and “Kawi” means “reddish brown” in the old Malay language, Langkawi’s name is derived from the reddish-brown eagle. The eagle is the symbol of Langkawi, and this man-made statue of one was constructed to symbolize the island’s history. It is situated atop a massive concrete platform shaped like a star.
What makes it more important is that it is a mere five minutes’ walk from other prominent Langkawi attractions, such as Kuah Jetty & Taman Lagenda, and numerous restaurants. People come here to relax and watch the ferries ply across the harbour in the evening. It is the ideal place for those postcard-perfect holiday photos courtesy its fancy miniature fountains, terraces and bridges.
